What is a Heart Rate Monitor?
A Heart Rate Monitor consists of a watch and a chest transmitter which picks up your heart rate and displays it on the watch. Your Heart Rate Monitor can tell you how hard you are working, for how long, how many calories you have burnt, how many times a week you should exercise to get to the maximum benefit and also provide you with accurate heart rate information to give you an idea of how your fitness is improving and changing.
Why Heart Rate Monitoring?
The "no pain, no gain" theory is still very much alive. What happens then is the majority of people quit because exercise is too hard. Does that sound like you? That's where the Heart Rate Monitor comes in, it paces you during your workout. It's like having a personal trainer that tells you to slow down or speed up.
The most effective way to reach your exercise and weight loss goals is to exercise in your target heart rate zone. There are three key targets zones that help you achieve specific goals. They are calculated based on your maximum heart rate (typical 220 minus your age). Your Polar Heart Rate Monitor will display your heart rate on the watch unit so that you know which zone you are working in:
60-70% Improves basic endurance and recovery 70-80% Improve your aerobic fitness 80% increases maximum exercise/ performance capacity
